AMCOL, formerly known as the AMERICAN CHARCOAL COMPANY,
began as a family operated foundry supply house in 1902. Sometime in the late 1940’s, we began to
specialize our efforts in lubricants, release agents, quenches, and other
ancillary chemicals for use in die casting of zinc and aluminum. Throughout
the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s, AMCOL began a focus on other emerging
metalworking industries, including welded steel tube manufacturing and cold
roll forming. Our motto soon became
as it is today, “helping industry meet ecological criteria since 1902”. In the 1990’s, AMCOL pioneered the creation of Minimum
Quantity Lubrication Systems. Early
technologies were crude and expensive.
Today, the applicators are designed for the industrial environment
and the lubricants are tailored to a variety of specialized applications,
which are particularly well suited to this technology. The concept of Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) would
be a springboard to carry AMCOL to the present day holistic approach for
the use and application of metalworking fluids. In this way, MQL is the matching of high performance
lubricants (generally green chemistry) dispensed with extremely accurate and
repeatable spray equipment. Today,
AMCOL offers a variety of different MQL fluids that are marketed under the
CANMIST trade name. Our newest
product, 344 CANMIST, when used in production band sawing of steel has
shown to provide similar feed and speed rates when compared with
flood-applied coolants, without the mess. This same concept of matching chemicals and dispensing
systems is now integral to our product offering. Today, we also offer metalworking coolants and related
filtration systems, release agents with air atomized spray, electrostatic
powder systems, and inline tube coating systems. AMCOL
is now officially a fifth generation business. Our corporate headquarters is in AMCOL in the early years!
